If you want to make sure that you are avoid having to completely replace your driveway in the near future, you are going to need to do your best to make use of the following advice. The more of an effort you put into keeping up with the condition of the asphalt driveway, the longer it will last.
Fill In The Cracks Right Away
No matter how new your driveway is, there will come a time when you may notice some small cracks forming. This is to be expected, but it is not to be ignored. If you ignore the small cracks because you assume that they cannot cause much harm to the overall condition of you driveway, you will find that they will get a lot bigger. This is because water will get into the cracks and freeze, which will cause the size of the crack to grow. The cracks could also fill up with debris, which could also cause the crack to expand from the amount of pressure on it. Therefore, you will want to do your best to find a quality asphalt crack sealant and apply it right away. If you are not able to do this on your own, it is worth the money spent to hire a driveway contractor to do it for you.
Use Cat Litter Instead Of Rock Salt
If you live in an area that gets snow and ice during the winter months, you may automatically want to reach for the rock salt when you are at the store. However, applying rock salt to your driveway is the last thing that you want to do because it will break down the integrity of the driveway over the years. It is much better to simply shovel off the excess snow and allow the sun to melt any ice that has formed on your driveway. If you need some help with traction for walking on the driveway or for the tires of your vehicle, you can spread of cat litter around. The cat litter will give you the traction you need, without having to worry about it ruining the asphalt. You will simply need to remember to sweep it up once the snow and ice have cleared.
A lot of the maintenance that is required of you in order to keep your driveway in good shape are things that you can do on your own. However, if you are very busy or physically unable to do it yourself, you will want to hire a skilled professional to do it for you.Share

About a year ago, I realized that there were all kinds of problems with our home's pavement. The driveway seemed to be chipping apart and the front walkway was desperately cracked. I knew that I had to do something to improve things, so I started working on getting bids to improve things. It was amazing to see how many different pavement options we had and how great of a job one contractor eventually did. The difference was astounding after all of the pavement was broken out and things were fixed. This blog is all about improving your paving and making a significant difference in your home.
